Profile of Effective Server Synopsis 

OUR MISSION: Serving great traditional food like you want to be served in a friendly atmosphere. Come have fun with us.

-Knows & strives to comply with THE DINER mission/philosophies.

-Knows & understands their primary responsibility is in the front-end of THE DINER & serving guests by maintaining & preparing the front-end for service including being welcoming, seating & greeting arriving guests, making them feel immediately welcome.

-Keeps commitments to owners, managers, team members, & to our guests by being dependable without unscheduled or unauthorized absence & by arriving at work on time & ready to be effective.

-Respects the person & property of coworkers & customers working well with other servers, cooks/prep staff, management, bussers at all times, especially during busy times. IE Treats others as you would want to be treated.

-Develops good knowledge of the job & works constantly to improve including learning, knowing & following menu, register system, preparation instructions, service times & presentation standards for all food of THE DINER.

-Assists in the training & education of other team members.

-When arriving at the table for the first time, tell the guest your name & discern whether or not the menu is new to them. If so help them with the organization of the menu/menu items. Ask them about their favorite foods or what sounds good to eat today. Then take their drink order.

-Offers to take food order when drinks are delivered or, if they are not ready, returns within minutes to do so.

-Listens carefully, confirming the order with the guest after taking the order.

-Immediately enters food order for that table after taking order.

-Checks food before delivering food to the table & confirms with each guest their order is complete including all condiments before leaving the table.

-Returns within minutes to check for guest satisfaction with food. Refills drinks often & watches for signs the customers need service.

-Offers desserts near the time they are finishing their food. Knows all the dessert offerings & can recite the selections to the guest.

-Delivers the check to table toward end of the meal before & after offering desserts.

-Pre-busses as soon as guest finishes their food.

-Operates a clean, neat & healthy front-end & works hard to maintain all areas of the restaurant always looking for prep, cleaning, stocking & side-work that needs to be done.

-Inspects the seating prior to seating customers for cleanliness of table, seat & floor & remedies the condition prior to seating if unsatisfactory.

-Always follows food safety guidelines & works to maintain all areas of responsibility.

-Knows the side-work & closing procedures & follows them.


-Leaves a clean & ready front-end at end of shift.
