Hope City Houston

Greetings from a new Texan. Having come from a Mega Church (Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, CA.) my wife Lynn and I were not sure we would ever find the kind of church family we were used to.
We had been guided by Pastor Greg Laurie and his knowledgeable pastoral staff through a remarkable journey of finding Faith through our 15 year old son, growing in our love for each other and Jesus Christ then losing our only child 6 years later; SGT Rhys Klasno, K.I.A. in Iraq on May 13 2007.
Replacing Harvest was going to be hard, spiritually and emotionally.
After relocating to Houston and 6 months of “pew hopping” and trying numerous churches Lynn said “lets go back to the 1st church we tried, Humble Area’s First.” I wasn’t sure why I didn’t like it the first go round so I reluctantly said “OK but I need ‘meat & potatoes’ these Texans don’t even bring their Bibles to church.”
I’m not sure what it was that day but when we walked in a greeter said hey, welcome back! (he remembered me, probably the mustache) The worship team was on fire; Pastor Barry Jeffries was serving up double helpings of Meat & Potatoes straight out of the Good Book. Hallelujah! Finally, a place to call home.
Pastor Jeffries style of teaching and knowledge of the bible make me look forward to Sunday mornings again. The churches atmosphere and energy of its worship team and choir bring us great joy. I would highly recommend Humble Area’s First Baptist Church as a place to worship and fellowship.
Houston's First Baptist Church on August 21, 2024
The oldest church in Houston, is now lead by a young Aggie that is keeping Christ the focus point. Except during football season, I still think be bias even though he does not show it.
Our pastor continues to push us to grow in Christ with the facts and no fluff.
